Ecoslurps - putting sustainability at the top table

When your brand depends on strong sustainability credentials it makes sense to prioritise your own carbon footprint.

That’s the approach EcoSlurps took as it seeks to grow its business supplying retail outlets, bars, and restaurants with eco-friendly products including a cutlery sets, cups, plates, bowls, and reusable and biodegradable straws.

The Cardiff-based start-up approached Business Wales for advice on measuring their carbon footprint and liaising with local social enterprises. Working with a dedicated sustainability adviser, the company adopted the Green Growth Pledge which helps Welsh businesses take pro-active steps towards improving their sustainability, demonstrating their positive impact on the people and places around them, as well as joining a growing community of forward-thinking organisations who are helping Wales transition to a low carbon future.

EcoSlurps is focusing on making most of its packaging plastic-free and is working with companies that are ISO, BSCI and FSC accredited. It also is a registered reforestation partner with the non-profit organisation OneTreePlanted.

As EcoSlurps founder Gerwyn Holmes explains: 'We signed up for the Green Growth Pledge to help reduce plastic waste within our organisation and help us achieve carbon neutral status. The past few years has seen unprecedented change in the import and export landscape. Business Wales has been supportive in helping us grow our business overseas during these challenging times.'
