Have you ever entered a draw or a contest and simply forgot about it? We did.
After watching Welcome to Wrexham, an American sports documentary television series, we started following the Wrexham AFC. In the summer of 2024 when we found out that one of the three stops on the Wrex Coast Tour would be in Vancouver, Canada we had to go.
At the game, Visit Wales had a contest for a trip for two to Wales that we entered, not thinking that anything would come of it. Surprisingly, we found the Visit Wales winning notification in our junk email. At first, we didn’t believe that it was real and that it was simply a scam, but after a few phone calls and verification we were elated with the prospect that we had won a trip to Wales.

Then the planning began with the Visit Wales team, setting dates, buying airline tickets, what to see, and what to do. We travelled with our two teenagers during the March break to Wales and had the time of our life. We were shown amazing hospitality everywhere we went, from restaurants to hotels, from public transit to tourist venues. Wales has an old-world charm in a country with a rich history and culture.
We were fortunate to take a private walking tour of Wrexham with local legend Bryan Still and a private walking tour of Cardiff with TV Chef, food author and broadcaster Nerys Howell from Loving Welsh Food Tour , which gave us a chance to really experience Wales, as well were able to visit several amazing castles, the aqueducts, museums, churches, shopping, and restaurants.
The highlight of our trip was attending the football game at the Racecourse, home of Wrexham AFC, and lunch at The Turf with owner Wayne Jones. The stadium was packed with passionate fans there to support and cheer on their teams. The trip wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Wrexham Club Shop to pick up some Wrexham kit and team jerseys. We had an amazing trip to Wales that we won’t soon forget. Thank you, Visit Wales.
So, the next time you enter a contest remember to check your junk email.
