On 6 June 2008, Wales made history by becoming the world’s first Fair Trade Nation. On 11 July 2023 there's a celebration in The Senedd to mark the 15th anniversary, which will be attended by campaigners and members of the public. This milestone highlights the Welsh public's commitment to supporting climate, social, and trade justice.
In 2003 the Welsh Government launched a campaign to promote the use of Fairtrade products in Wales. This campaign was supported by a range of organisations, including the Wales Cooperative Centre, Oxfam Cymru, and the Welsh Centre for International Affairs.
Fair Trade Wales continues to support producers, through supporting, growing and promoting the Fairtrade movement in Wales.
Fair Trade Wales is part of the work of the Wales for Africa project, which supports people in Wales to take action on poverty in Africa.
