If you thought an investment summit sounded like a rather dry affair, think again.
The Wales Investment Summit 2025, which took place at the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport in early December, resembled something more akin to a giant gala, with stalls, special guests and live music performances wowing those in attendance.
Yet, while the summit – the first on this scale to be held in Wales – certainly provided a good time to the 350 global delegates who attended, there was a more serious agenda beyond the spectacle, with the event aiming to present Wales as a prime destination for high-value international investment.
Hundreds of senior industry and business leaders from around the world were given a firsthand insight into the economic landscape of Wales, with demonstrations on opportunities for future investment and partnerships. These largely focused on six key sectors where Wales is already leading the way (and which are primed for continued growth), namely: tech and digital, life sciences, compound semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, creative industries, and clean energy.
Delegates were also able to listen to interviews with renowned economists, investors, and industry leaders on matters such as the global investment landscape and financing a sustainable future for Wales.
Of course, there was also a spotlight shone on a selection of great existing Welsh businesses, new and old, at the summit, showcasing some of the best products, businesses and talent coming out of the country. This included some of our amazing exports from the vibrant Welsh food and drink sector, such as Wrexham Lager and Penderyn whisky, who were both official suppliers to the event.
Further highlights at the summit included a keynote address delivered by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and an electrifying live performance from Llareggub Brass Band.
Speaking ahead of the landmark summit, First Minister Eluned Morgan said, ‘Events like this provide crucial focus for business and government to work together and make deals that will benefit communities the length and breadth of Wales.’
‘Wales offers a compelling investment proposition thanks to our world-class infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a strategic location that provides access to major UK and European markets,’ the First Minister added.
