The Welsh route: Y Trallwng (Welshpool) to Caerdydd, through epic Welsh scenery

On Sunday 4 July 2027, Stage 3 of the men’s race will roll out from Y Trallwng (Welshpool in Powys) and head south across spectacular Welsh terrain. Travelling through the green heart of Cymru, the peloton will weave through Mid-Wales’ rural market towns, under red kite-filled skies, surrounded by dramatic hills.

In the decisive closing kilometres, the race is set to tackle two fan favourite climbs: Côte de Rhigos and Côte de Caerffili. Expect some spectacular racing as the world’s best test themselves on challenging roads beloved by Welsh cyclists.

The race culminates with a showpiece finish in our capital, Caerdydd.

This will be the final UK stage of the Grand Départ, the culminating act of a nationwide celebration of cycling—and one of the largest free-to-attend sporting events ever hosted on these shores.

To coincide with the route reveal, Geraint Thomas OBE, two-time Olympic champion and winner of the 2018 Tour de France, has been named Wales’ Cycling Ambassador.

In the run up to 2027, Geraint will work with Visit Wales to champion our worldclass cycling offer, our road climbs, mountain biking, gravel and family-friendly, traffic-free trails.

He said: “These roads, these climbs and these fans are made for cycling—now the world gets to see that.”
