The launch of the 2023 Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland took place on Monday 27 March, with the eight Michelin Star restaurants in Wales, including the two Michelin Star Ynyshir, retained their Stars.

The only restaurant in Wales with two Michelin Stars, Chef Gareth Ward's Ynyshir in Machynlleth, Powys offers a unique dining experience with a menu of around 30 servings. With ingredients from Wales and around the world, the mid Wales restaurant with rooms offers this taster menu accompanied by techno music. Sosban and the Old Butchers offers a unique dining experience with locally sourced produce. Chef Shaun Hill's Walnut Tree in Llanddewi Skirrid, near Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, offers a warm welcome. There's a cosy open-fired bar and dining room hung with colourful art.

Bib Gourmand Award 2023

More good news for Welsh eateries was that Yr Hen Printworks, Cardigan received a Bib Gourmand in the 2023 Guide. The Michelin Bib Gourmand Award is for good quality food at a reasonable price. The restaurant, which is described as having good quality, good value cooking, is a great place to 'drink, dine, unwind’. The menu features small plates, such as organic family beef and Welsh lamb, mint and swede. Search for somewhere to stay in Cardigan on the Visit Wales website.

Chapters Green Star awards

Chapters in Hay-on-Wye and Henry Robertson on the Palé Estate, Llandderfel retained their green awards too. The Michelin Green Star highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices.

Chapters, which gained the award in 2022, has a seasonal hyperlocal changing set menu, has its own garden and follow the ethos 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' in all areas. Chapters' pledge is to continue to improve, to learn, to ask questions and to listen to ideas & feedback. Search for accommodation in Hay on Wye.

Henry Robertson, awarded the green award in 2021, offers fine dining in an elegant setting. There's an eight course seasonal tasting menu featuring local produce. Organic herbs, veg and fruit are growing using our own compost. There's an on-site hydro-electric plant, staff have uniforms made recycled plastic and there's an incentive scheme for innovative contributions to reduce their carbon footprint.
