When it comes to great dining experiences in the Welsh capital, The Classroom, a restaurant staffed by students from Cardiff and Vale College, has always been a grade A choice, with the venue receiving a number of awards through the years, including an AA College Rosette.

Now, both the college and its on-site restaurant have another accolade on their report card, after the institution was inducted into the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts.

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) was founded in 1980 and is one of the most respected culinary institutions in the UK. Under the patronage of the British monarch, King Charles, the group serves to spotlight restaurants and educational facilities of exceptional quality that show a dedication to shaping and safeguarding the future of the British cooking and hospitality industry.

The college becomes the latest member of RACA’s College Community Programme, created to help higher education facilities connect students with industry specialists, generate career pathways into the industry, and develop key skillsets for the next generation of culinary talent.

Along with becoming the first college in Wales to join the academy, the college’s on-site restaurant The Classroom has now also become the first eatery in Wales to be linked with the group.

The restaurant, which provides trainee chefs and hospitality staff hands-on experience in a working restaurant environment, serves up fine-dining European-focused fare at affordable prices, making it one of Cardiff’s most exciting restaurants. Along with the food, the restaurant, located on the fifth floor of the college, also boasts one of the best views of the city through its floor-to-ceiling windows.

Speaking about the college being inducted into the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, Cardiff and Vale College Principal Sharon James-Evans said, ‘We are delighted to join the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts. Working in partnership with industry experts to ensure our learners have cutting-edge skills and industry knowledge is core to our commitment to offering real experiences that can build their employability. It really is exciting to be a part of this UK-wide project.’
