Dŵyl San Steffan (St. Stephen's Day) - fallls on the 26 December and is Wales Boxing Day.
The winter solstice takes place on 21 December 2017.
There are three public holidays during the winter months: Christmas Day, Boxing Day (25, 26 December) and New Year’s day (1 January). If any of these dates fall during a weekend, a day in lieu is given. So in 2020 Christmas Eve will be give as a public holiday as Boxing Day falls on a Saturday.
Schools break up for holidays a few days before Christmas. Pupils return to school in early January for the beginning of the spring term.
The spring half term takes place around about the second week of February.
Universities usually break up for Christmas slightly before schools, around 17 December. In early January many Universities have examinations, with the new spring semester starting in late January. See individual Universities for details. It is also the closing dates to submit University applications in Wales so make sure you do not miss out!
