The links between Wales and the USA go back a long way. At least six of the signatories to the Declaration of Independence and two of the Founding Fathers who were of Welsh extraction, including Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, went on to become American Presidents.

Today the links are stronger than ever. As Secretary of State Hilary Clinton – herself an American of Welsh descent - said in her message to mark St David’s Day this year, "Today the United States and Wales are united by our shared values, history, and aspirations for a brighter future for all our people. Our businesses trade together, our educators and scientists collaborate in classrooms and laboratories, and our people crisscross the Atlantic as friends and family."
