First Minister’s visit to India

The First Minister of Wales, Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, visited India from 28 – 31 October 2014. This was part of ongoing efforts to build the relationship between India and Wales and to enhance business opportunities.

The First Minister met the Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley, one of the most senior members of the Indian Government. He also held meetings with a number of companies including some of those with existing operations in Wales such as Tata Steel, Wockhardt and Firstsource Solutions.

As part of a programme to promote the creative industries and celebrate the work of Dylan Thomas the First Minister attended a British Council event in Mumbai and then addressed the opening of the Mumbai Literary Festival.

Events organised by the Welsh Government team in India were held in Chennai and Pune the following week and were targeted at potential inward investors. Similar events are planned for 2015.
