Wales hosts Canadian travel writers' first ever foreign event

Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, has this week welcomed (w/c 8 March) the travel writers of Canada to Wales for their first ever conference outside Canada.

Wales fought off competition from other worldwide destinations to host the prestigious Travel Media Association in Canada event over 7-12 March.

It is estimated that Wales will gain £1.5 million in generated advertising value in Canada from this event and associated familiarisation tours.

"This is a massive coup for our nation and Visit Wales and we are delighted to be the first ever foreign destination for this event," Mr Jones said.

"This demonstrates Wales' growing reputation abroad as a vibrant and unique holiday destination, and is a tribute to the continuing hard work of Visit Wales and the Assembly Government's commitment to promote the tourism industry."

The travel writers arrived in Cardiff on Sunday 7 March for five nights for their Conference and AGM in City Hall. Visit Wales has arranged a total of 23 tours throughout Wales for the delegates - before, after and during the conference.

These tours will introduce the Canadian media to Wales' essential appeal, distilling the essence of Wales' culture and attractions for future publication, and hopefully excite their audience enough to make them want to visit Wales.
