New drama centre plans unveiled
The Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has announced that plans to develop a new centre for the creative industries in Wales – which includes a new BBC drama production centre - have taken a step forward.
Subject to planning consent, the centre will be based on the 27-acre Roath Basin site. It will form the second phase of Media Capital that includes and complements the proposals for a new drama production centre announced today by BBC Cymru Wales.
The intention is to create a dynamic media hub and a new core for a cluster of independent production companies - businesses that are providing highly skilled jobs.
The Creative Industries is one of the sectors that the Assembly Government has identified as being crucial in terms of the future development of the Welsh economy.
The centre would provide opportunities not only for the BBC and the wide range of businesses within its supply chain, but also other businesses within the creative media sector.
Roath Basin, which is owned by the Welsh Assembly Government, is the largest single remaining undeveloped site in Cardiff Bay enjoying a prime location and seen as a superb centre for the creative industry sector.
