Welsh Genealogy
Catherine Tudor Jones will be offering advice and assistance to Americans of Welsh decent at the festival. Although the surname Jones, is often considered distinctively Welsh, it is also the fourth most common surname in the United States which suggests that a high percentage of Americans have Welsh roots. Joining her will be Cyril Evans, who has gained significant experience in Welsh genealogical research and resources; Beryl Evans, Family History Co-ordinator, who works with individuals, communities and family history societies in Wales as well as England to promote resources, information and knowledge relating to family and local history.

The project website chronicles the history and experiences of the Welsh settlers in Ohio in the 19th century and displays images of emigrant letters, journals, registers, photographs and printed materials. In the summer of 2008, she visited Ohio to digitize more materials for the site.

Carlos Pinatti
Visual artist

Pinatti’s work involves projects that develop from firsthand experience of a place or in response to a person or a community. His projects include the use of film and combined media and are presented as a combination of video, installation and sculpture. His recent work explores the relationship between the Welsh community in Patagonia and the Tehuelches Indians from that region.

Walter Brooks
Language tutor, researcher – Wales - Argentina society

A Patagonian of Welsh descent residing in Wales, Brooks works at the School of Welsh, Cardiff University, teaching Welsh to adults and undergraduates and carrying out research about Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement in Patagonia. Since 2007, he has been acting as an intermediary to promote the cultural links between Patagonia and Wales. He is also an active member of the Wales-Argentina Society.

Carwyn Evans
Visual artist
Evans is a visual artist with a pared-down sculptural aesthetic. Cultural experiences and issues related to one’s individual sense of place are his principal concerns. He works with both existing and specifically produced, often highly crafted objects and images. His first solo exhibition recently took place at Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown.
