There are over 150 musical events listed in the Welsh calendar annually. Here are just some of them:
National Eisteddfod of Wales
Our eisteddfodau are popular festivals of culture, song and dance. The biggest of these eisteddfodau is the National Eisteddfod of Wales – a mix of pageantry and poetry, dance, theatre, choral singing and rock music that attracts more than 150,000 visitors annually.
International Musical Eisteddfod
The International Musical Eisteddfod at Llangollen attracts musicians and dancers from around the world. Luciano Pavarotti made his first international appearance at Llangollen, when as a young adult he performed with his choir from Modena.
Cardiff Singer of the World
The Cardiff Singer of the World Competition is a singing competition held every two years. Started by BBC Wales in 1983 to celebrate the opening of St David's Hall in Cardiff, it's considered one of the most prestigious competitions in the opera world. Auditions are held worldwide with 25 singers being selected to represent their own country in Cardiff. Our very own Bryn Terfel won the Lieder Prize in 1989 and has since rocketed to international stardom.
Brecon Jazz
Every August Brecon Jazz in mid Wales attracts jazz legends from all over the world. It’s one of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe.
Wakestock Festival
The Wakestock Festival attracts a great line up of live music to the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales, alongside a wakeboarding competition. The event is Europe’s largest wakeboard music festival.
Green Man Festival
The Green Man Festival, Glanusk Park, Brecon Beacons has grown to become one of the most attended music festivals in Wales. The festival is based around a number of music stages and activities for the whole family, with weekend camping in the Beacons a favourite option to the festival goers. The festival has been described as " Heaven" by the UK's Guardian newspaper.
SŴN Festival
Sŵn Festival is a music festival curated by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and Cardiff-based promoter John Rostron, which takes place annually in Stephens' hometown of Cardiff, Wales. Swn promotes and celebrates new music coming in and out of Wales.
Merthyr Rock
A new music festival to Wales that launched in September 2011, Merthyr Rock takes place at Cyfarthfa Park. It had great success in its first year and hosted acts such as Ocean Colour Scene, Skindred, The Blackout and Funeral For A Friend.
North Wales International Music Festival
The North Wales International Music Festival aims to bring the finest international artists to North Wales. A week of classical music concerts from internationally acclaimed artists.
