Beaches and coastline

Beach Huts on Llanbedrog

Surrounded by sea on three sides, we've got a lot beaches. The Pembrokeshire coastline is 186 miles (300km) long, which means it would take about two and a half weeks to walk it and involves more ascent than climbing Everest. However you don't need your hiking boots to see the visitors to our shore such as dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks, Atlantic grey seals and leatherback turtles.

Tenby is one our most popular resorts along the coast and has three Blue Flag Beaches which stretch for three miles. It is also on the list for having one of the most sandcastle friendly sand in Britain.

Colwyn Bay in North Wales has one of the longest promenades anywhere in the UK. It also has a thriving farmers market where the organic pork is especially good. Or you can catch your own dinner from the end of the pier.

Llandudno is framed by a pair of limestone headlands, the Great Orme and the Little Orme. With two Blue Flag Beaches in between and a perfectly preserved Victorian seafront.

Porthcawl in South Wales is really popular with surfers and other water sports fans. Nearby is the Merthyr Mawr Warren which has some of the largest sand dunes in Europe.
