Welsh food at Tokyo exhibition

Welsh food industry centre stage at Tokyo exhibition

Representatives from the Welsh food industry will travel to Japan this week to promote the export of Welsh food products and attract Japanese investment into Wales.

Foodex 2013, a food and drink exhibition running from 5th to 8th March in Tokyo, is expecting to attract more than 23,000 exhibitors from over 70 countries along with 75,000 visitors.

The Welsh Government-hosted stand will showcase first-rate Welsh food and drink products, and will promote Wales' propositions for inward investment through various events.

These will include a workshop providing advice to companies on issues such as EU food manufacturing regulations and entering UK retail chains.

With a wealth of quality natural produce, a skilled workforce, and a history of manufacturing first-class food and drink products, Wales is well placed to benefit from Japan's increasing investment in overseas food and drinks sectors.

During the visit a business reception will also be held enabling over 50 Japanese food companies to network with the Welsh delegation, and meetings will be organised so that Welsh companies can meet new and existing Japanese clients.

The presence at the food exhibition is part of a wider Welsh Government effort to promote Welsh products and to raise Wales' profile as a great place to do business, visit and study.
