Welsh cyclist Thomas rides in 5th at Tour prologue

We were all excited here when we heard that Geraint Thomas, a Welsh cyclist from Cardiff, is riding in the Tour de France this year. But we were especially proud to see him come in 5th in the Prologue of the famous race just 23 seconds behind the leader, Fabian Cancellara.

Raised in Cardiff, Geraint is riding in the Tour de France with the Sky Pro Cycling Team alongside fellow Brit Bradley Wiggins.. It’s his second time competing in the biggest cycling event of the year, which started in Rotterdam on Saturday 3rd July. The 97th Tour de France will see 198 riders covering a total distance of 3,642 kilometres in 1 prologue race and 20 stages. After three weeks of cycling, the race will conclude at the Champs Elysees in Paris on Sunday July 25th.

Geraint also won the British National Road Race Championships earlier this year and this will be the first time the British Champion's jersey has been worn at the Tour for 18 years.

Good luck Geraint!
