Transatlantic link up at Techniquest

On 24th October a group of south Wales children will be taking part in a transatlantic link-up as part of the cornerstone project for the International Year of Astronomy.

They will be involved in a joint star-gazing session with students at the Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta. The event is being organised by Techniquest, the only UK science centre involved in such a link-up.

Dr. Paul Roche from the Faulkes Telescope team will lead the session, which will look at the night sky over Australia, or Hawaii, while it’s daytime in both Cardiff and Atlanta.

Techniquest programmes officer Jane Young says “we feel very privileged to be the only UK science centre participating in the International Year of Astronomy world twinning programme. We hope it will inspire students both here and in Atlanta to want to learn more about the night sky, and maybe forge some links between the young people for joint further study.”
