First Taekwondo Gold
Wales has given Great Britain its first Gold medal at Taekwondo, with a win by 19 year old Jade Jones from Flint, north east Wales.
Last night Jade, who is known as the “headhunter”, beat China’s world champion Yuzhuo Hou to win the gold medal. She is the youngest person so far in the London 2012 games to win gold and is the youngest ever from Wales. The celebrations to mark her achievement include a gold postbox and a Royal Mail postage stamp.
The London 2012 Games close on Sunday but there’s still lots of great sporting action before then. Today Hannah Mills and her partner Saskia Clark will find out which medal they have in the 470 sailing event, they are guaranteed to win a medal, as is Boxer Fred Evans, who competes in the semi finals tonight. Frankie Jones put on a beautiful display yesterday in Rhythmic Gymnastics and continues to compete today. In Hockey Team GB, which includes Welsh born Sarah Thomas, compete today for the bronze medal.
Jade’s medal is the third gold for Welsh competitors in the London 2012 Olympic Games and we have a guaranteed 6 medals tally in the games to date, bettering the Beijing Olympics already.
