Autumn climate in Wales

Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula

During the summer, we enjoy a rise in temperatures and longer days. As we head into autumn, the days gradually become shorter and the temperature cools.

Autumn can start off as a warm season though. Some years September and even the beginning of October have been very warm. When we experience a warm start of autumn we call it an' Indian summer’. We’ve had days of glorious sunshine and temperatures high enough to swim in the sea.

Days tend to get cooler in October, but we have dry days, ideal for taking a walk and enjoying the autumn colours.

Temperatures dip in October and November. We sometimes experience snow in autumn, although mainly on higher ground.
